Here’s a note to let you know that Boom is partnering with Civic Future to host a panel event on how the UK can kickstart a new baby boom, at 6.30pm-8pm on Tuesday 8th October at Public Hall, 1 Horse Guards Avenue, SW1A 2HU. You are welcome to join us!
As birth rates fall, there’s evidence that policies compatible with democratic values and aimed squarely at making parents’ and prospective parents’ lives better and easier can raise them again. We’re going to discuss the political challenges and opportunities these policies face in the UK.
Our speakers are:
Ruxandra Teslo, author of the Yggdrasil Substack where she writes about technology and culture. Ruxandra is one of my favourite public intellectuals and her writing and thinking has gained an international audience with dazzling speed.
Stephen Bush, columnist and Associate Editor of the Financial Times. Stephen is a brilliant and highly regarded political commentator, and his political insight is going to be very valuable in the discussion.
Dr Aveek Bhattacharya, Research Director at the SMF think tank. Aveek is an economist who has been writing insightfully about the birth rate challenge for years (and supportive of Boom from the start!).
Me, Phoebe Arslanagić-Little, director of Boom and Head of the New Deal for Parents campaign.
Sign up to come along on Partiful! There will also be drinks and the discussion will be followed by a Q&A. The panel will be chaired by the excellent Inaya Folarin Iman.
